About IIIEE MOOCs
MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSES (MOOCS)
Since 2014, the IIIEE at Lund university has developed seven Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). These courses are open for anyone who is interested in learning more about a give subject. Universities offer MOOCs to give an insight to the topic, research, faculty and operations. In early 2000, American universities including Stanford, Harvard and MIT worked to develop the first courses. In 2014, Lund University launched the first three MOOCs. By doing so they were frontrunners in Sweden. The IIIEE is in relative terms the most MOOC productive organisation in Sweden, with currently 8 MOOCs running and 2 in the pipeline!

MOOCs in brief
MOOCs are short for Massive Open Online Courses and are a form of online courses. They are special in that they open to anyone and many times free of charge. A majority of MOOCs is produced by university but not only, as businesses and state organisations are starting to develop their courses too. MOOCs do not give university credits or degrees but help participants building skills and familiarity and provide diplomas to exhibit these.
A typical IIIEE MOOC is sized as a 5 week part-time course (3-7 hours a week). The courses are offered asynchronously and year-round. This allows learners who don’t have a fast or reliable internet connection to learn at their own pace. Learners can access and complete lectures, readings, homework and other learning materials at any time.
