Today, PhD-student Anna-Riikka Kojonsaari nailed her freshly produced doctoral thesis publication. “Spikning” (Swedish for nailing) is ritual by which the thesis is nailed on the wall - the purpose being to allow the public and the audience to read the thesis before the public defence.

The notification "spikning" in Swedish) stems from the tradition to nail the thesis at a designated place at the university for public viewing. At the IIIEE, the nailing took place in the lobby on the first floor.

Anna-Riikka’s thesis focuses on thesmart grid as a key arena in the global energy transition—not just a technological development, but a transformation in governance, participation, and power dynamics.

The thesis will be defended on the 25th of April, the opponent will be Professor Tomas Moe Skjølsvold from Norwegian University of Science and Technology
